Goccles is a medical device patented by Pierrel in partnership with the Catholic University of Rome.
Goccles uses the regular curing light found in every dental practice to perform a quick and non-invasive examination of the oral cavity’s autofluorescence, identifying cancerous and precancerous lesions that are not visible to the naked eye.
The professional wears Goccles and illuminates the mouth with the curing light: healthy tissues appear uniform, while suspicious areas show a loss of autofluorescence and appear darker.
This allows the practitioner to guide further investigations and take early action.

Goccles uses the principle of oral mucosa autofluorescence through a patented optical filter built into the glasses, allowing dentists to identify precancerous or cancerous lesions.
By illuminating the oral cavity with the curing light, healthy tissues appear green, while areas with suspicious lesions—less bright (hypofluorescent)—appear darker and are therefore easier to identify for further examination.
Blue light
The curing light emits a blue beam that penetrates the mucosa and activates the natural fluorophores present in healthy cells.
Autofluorescence
These fluorophores absorb the blue light and emit light at a longer wavelength, appearing green in color.
Optical filter
The Goccles glasses filter the reflected and absorbed light, isolating the fluorescent response of healthy tissues and making the normal mucosa appear green.
Lesion identification
Tumor or precancerous cells, on the other hand, absorb and reflect less light, making them hypofluorescent and appearing as darker areas compared to the surrounding tissue.
